Feb. 14 is either your favorite upcoming holiday or one of your most disliked. Valentine’s Day is said to be the holiday to celebrate love and relationships. But what are the most romantic, memorable, and affordable ways to spend your time on Valentine’s Day as a high schooler? According to some of our students, these are some of the best ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day (whether you’re single or in a relationship).

For those who are single and lost on what to do on this special day, here are some of the best ways to celebrate:

“Spending Valentine’s with your other single friends and going on friend dates is always a fun idea,” comments senior Ellie Whyte.

Some of our most popular ideas include watching movies, having picnics, staying in to have a self-care day, exploring Downtown, having a night out with friends, and cooking dinner together.

Most activities that are known to be for people in relationships are just as good for those who are not in one. “The best way to spend Valentine’s Day is by doing something personal,” Whyte elaborates.

“I don’t think Valentine’s Day is overrated; I think it’s sweet and is best to be spent with friends,” adds junior Pauline Caussade. Spending Valentine’s Day with friends can be just as fun as spending the day with a significant other.

Some people, however, have different beliefs.

“The best way to spend Valentine’s Day is obviously with your significant other,” says junior Jacqueline Reister. “This year my boyfriend and I will most likely go to a fun dinner. I recommend ordering Papa John’s because they make heart shaped pizzas every year!”

The most popular and affordable restaurant recommended for couples is Nori Sushi Bistro. The restaurant is beloved and modest for most high school couples and a great place for a nice, romantic dinner. Not only is their sushi delicious, it has a fun atmosphere and is a perfect place to go with your lover.

“The Rock N’ Roll is to die for. I order it every time,” Riester adds.

However, going out to dinner is not the only option. Staying in to cook homemade heart-shaped pizzas with your lover is also a good choice. Adding a rom-com movie to that can make it even better!

Whether you’re single or in a relationship, Valentine’s Day can be a fun experience. Spending time with your significant other or your best friend involves love and affection no matter what. Valentine’s Day does not have to be dreadful and relationship-exclusive, spending time with friends and family can be just as enjoyable and entertaining.

“Anyone can celebrate Valentine’s Day! Just remember Papa John’s’ heart-shaped pizzas!” Riester concludes.
